In the state of Tamil Nadu, here in India, one could see structures similar to the isolated Stone Henges along the rural roadsides. They are called 'Weight Rests' ('sumai thaangi' in Tamil language). They were erected in the memory of deceased persons and to help the tired travelers to put their luggage on the top and take rest underneath. But the conjecture about the presence of an interrupted circle with the henges rules out the purpose of Stone Henges - they were built in the memory of deceased persons.

Weight rests and Stone Henges
