Nature's selection of Plants and Animals in a Year

Pictures of Plants and Animals

NATURE selects and promotes only a certain type of plants or animals in a year. This phenomenon depends upon environmental conditions, such as local rainfall, weather, climate and the fertility of both the soil and the living things. In the past five years period it has been found in my South Indian backyard that in a given year only a type of wild flowering plant grows more in abundance dominating on other plants. But this dominating nature didn’t continue so in the next following year: another plant dominated! Likewise in animals, for example, the frogs, different varieties of them were promoted in a year like one of our common frog or tiger frog or tree frog. Similarly, within arthropods, spiders or scorpions (arachnids) and butterflies or bugs (insects) dominated. Another aspect was also noticed: in reptiles, one of these like either lizards or snakes was promoted to breed profusely in a year. The next year another CLASS of animal kingdom among Classes of animals or within their Families or Species dominated. Even disease producing bacteria or viruses are promoted in a similar manner. So, it can be deduced here that diseases affecting man are also ‘preferred and promoted’ by Nature each year! The best example was seen here in the year 2006, when Chikungunya disease affected many people. It was due to the promotion of an Arbo virus (alpha type 1) (and also its virus carrying mosquito, Aedes egyptii naturally)!

Egret's ingenious way of preying upon

Egrets catch fish in ponds in an ingenious way. They stand still in the shallow waters. Then they lift up one of their legs slightly and move it inside water from side to side repeatedly. This agitates the water and the mud on the pond's floor. The fish lurking come out to the water surface. The egrets catch them quickly with their yellow beaks!

Being present in the sylvan beauty that is enclosed between the tops of four hills must be enchanting and exciting, isn’t it? The place on this earth referred to is called ‘MAHALINGA MALAI’ (it is in Southern Tamilnadu of India). Cut off totally from the rest of the world, there it will be great to enjoy the company of trees and plants, birds and animals & the devotees and their prayers to SIVA, the Hindu God of these hills! The mantra chanted everywhere on the hills is: “Sivayea nama Om
Up the hills to the abode of the god:
The hills have to be ascended up by walking and climbing through the paths surrounded by many medicinal plants, trees and streams, and dotted with small worshiping sites for minor deities here and there. The path is occasionally seen strewn with scats of bears. Monkeys follow you for the snacks you carry. Jungle fowl strays out near the path sometimes.
The tiredness of ascending is blown out by the hospitality received from the devotees when we reach the Mahalinga malai temple: the devotees provide us resting spots and give free food as these services to the worshipers are equaled to the services to the God.
The elephants too worship the God:
It is said elephants come to the shrines of SIVA when the humans are absent, and pray the God by offering flowers! I wonder whether we humans have interfered much their praying duties! I think that why we should not allot for them certain period of the year for their free prayers?
On the hills one can even go for trekking higher up the hills to their tops with the guidance of experienced devotees. Note that nobody resides on the hills except Siddhars! All devotees descend down after praying the God. It is a wonder everywhere on the Mahalinga malai having always wonderful experiences at each time of the trip to be told to the folks at the plains!

Gene Studies

(1) The study of the faulty gene in Type 1 Diabetes patients leading to finding it as a risk factor to people in the development of the disease.
(2) Tampering the gene content in mouse to study its sexual behavior by its organ in the nose.
(3) Identification of gene that causes the visual disorder, Glaucoma.
These reported gene studies in the dailies are quite interesting. But when will they be put into more practical use for improvement, development and cure?

The Wise and Benevolent Plant

Insects aid plants in pollination. Some plants avoid interference to this insect pollination: The Passion vine plant (Passiflora incarnata) produces nectar at the base of each leaf for ants that may interfere! This distraction also has another advantage: the plant is guarded by these ants round the clock! Really it is a WONDER in the Nature!

This plant exhibits a peculiar phenomenon. Its flowers bloom overnight and close at forenoon as soon as sun's rays heat them! This also happens even when the flowers are plucked and kept in the shadow!

Tuberculosis - in the past and the present

About forty years back Tuberculosis was an abominable and incurable disease for the common people. Even movie pictures showed that newer drugs were discovered in a foreign country that cured the heroine’s tuberculosis! Sanatorium treatment was advocated then. The children were warned about this ‘jailed treatment’ and not to have contact with tuberculosis affected people!

Nowadays tuberculosis treatment is available at door step. Sanatoria are vacant, or have been converted into other medical facilities: patients continue to do their jobs while taking anti-tuberculosis medicines. The new born child is also assured of its right to have all the immunizations – by giving it first BCG vaccine against Tuberculosis!

Tuberculosis treatment and its control are wonders among the treatment of diseases.

Tuberculosis Susceptible people

Tuberculosis has ceased to be the disease of the poor and rural people. Now anyone, even the affluent people can get it by being weak in their immunity through their acquiring HIV+ status and then by moving freely with the tuberculosis patients. They are well aware about tuberculosis (and about its cure by DOTS medicines) but are careless about it. They need counseling both for preventing HIV and Tuberculosis and treating them, in case they contracted them.

Tuberculosis Treatment

Here in India people are well aware of Tuberculosis and availability of curative treatment for it. They move freely and boldly everywhere knowing all about the symptoms of the disease, the places of sputum examination and the presence of treatment providers at their own villages. They even know about the medicines of 'Directly Observed Therapy, Short - Course (DOTS)'! They understand here Short -Course as a period of six months!

Deadly Strain of bacteria - a wonder!

The presence of a deadly strain of tuberculosis causing bacilli in a patient at Phoenix of Arizona has been reported in dailies around 13th July 2007. Here, in India Medical fraternity are treating successfully even the multidrug resistant-tuberculosis effectively with the available higher drugs.

This deadly strain must be a WONDER in that it could not be killed at this era of Modern medicine!

The Summary and the Invitations

The wonders in the structural arrangement, its stories, purpose and the conjectures about the Stone Henges, and the related topics were placed here in this blog. Viewers and readers could have their own conjectures and opinions about the Stone Henges, and also personal experiences about related wonders in their countries, or in their urban or suburban places. They are invited to express or share them here. Historians, Archaeologists, Astronomers and all those interested in Stone Henges may co-operate and do research – to unravel the secrets revolving around the WONDER, the Stone Henges that were ‘created’ by and due to, the long gap of centuries.

Architectural wonders and the Stone Henges

The Gandhi Memorial building in Kanyakumari of India is uniquely designed. Inside it each year on the birthday of Mahatma Gandhiji (October 2nd) sunrays fall on the place where his ashes were kept (for immersion in the seas) through a hole on the roof! Likewise sunlight also enters into the inner sanctum sanctorum of a Pillaiyar (Elephant -faced God) temple at Uppur of South Tamilnadu on the east coast (near Rameshwaram). It happens only at certain festival day!
These are architectural WONDERS like that of the Stone Henges!

The Rock Memorial and the Stone Henges

Vivekananda Roc
k Memorial is at Kanyakumari of India. The top of eastern parapet wall of this memorial presents some markings: Sun's yearly deviations on its sojourn overhead from East to the West from season to season have been represented by stone line carvings. With such similar lines of astronomical precision the Stone Henges might have been planned and erected by the Druids!

Kanyakumari Legend and Stone Henges

At Kanyakumari, the southernmost tip of India, there is a confluence of three Seas. There a legend goes in praise of the Goddess: the crew of the ships arriving there mistook the light emanating from the nose ring of the Goddess in the temple, as that of a light-house and their ships crashed against the rocks of the shore. The Druids were also attracted by the Sun to build the Stone Henges in wise way to harness its power!

Jantar Mantar and the Stone Henges

At Jantar Mantar in Jaipur of India, astronomical structures were built in the early 18th century to verify Astronomical observations and to stimulate interest in Astronomy. They stand like Stone Henges. But before 2000 BC, Druids had used the Stone Henges built with their astronomical knowledge, to harness the power of Sun! That is the WONDER in it!

Druids- Stone Henges & Indo-Aryans

The Druids, the ancient priests from the Celtic race who had built the Saracen Stone Henges, used Indo-European language. The Aryans of India too used that language as the Druids did. So, Druids could have had the same culture and religious rituals as that of Indo-Aryans! (After all, culture, traditions and rituals pass over from one race to the other through the common language used, isn’t it?). Hence, the Stone Henges related religious rituals also might have been similar to that of Indians.

The Present State of Stone Henges

Why the Stone Henges was later neglected like this?
Was it not found later useful?
Or did anything powerful than it came into use later?

Installation of Stone Henges

Druids, the priests from the Celts of Britain are said to have built the Stone Henges. They must have thought like this: at certain periods of the year plants come out of soil and grow tall by getting the power from the Sun. Why our human race could not get power from the Sun too? To harness the power of sun, the priests could have used their astronomical knowledge to calculate the periods of solar activity and to find the important positions on their land where the infrastructures – the Stone Henges may be installed. Then they built the Stone Henges with the inner stones fixed in the important positions. The regularly arranged inner stones might have represented the seat positions of the King’s court. At certain periods of the year when the sun’s power could be harnessed the most, the King’s court could have assembled there and taken their special seats. Then the rituals might have been started to bestow the stability and sovereignty to the king’s court and hence to the entire kingdom.

Stone Henges guard the inner stones

A stone is implanted in the earth’s soil either to mark a position of something, or border a large property with other similar stones implanted around. So in the case of Stone Henges the outer circle of stones bordered the inner important positions of inner stones. Thus the inner important positions (property) could have been guarded as the right of the owners to ward off others and to warn them not to enter into the territory!

www.destination360.com on Bronze Age of Stone Henges

http://www.destination360.com/europe/uk/stone-henge says ‘….bronze fragments had been found near the site of Stone Henges denoting the Bronze Age….’ In India all Hindu temples have bells made of bronze, mounted on an iron rod over two upright stones. A conjecture: such erection of bell on stones resembles Stone Henges! Bronze bells could have been attached below the horizontal stones of stone henges. Probably the fragments of these bells might have been seen around the henges. This also in turn indicates the purpose of Stone Henges: Religious rituals!

Weight rests and Stone Henges

In the state of Tamil Nadu, here in India, one could see structures similar to the isolated
Stone Henges along the rural roadsides. They are called 'Weight Rests' ('sumai thaangi' in Tamil language). They were erected in the memory of deceased persons and to help the tired travelers to put their luggage on the top and take rest underneath. But the conjecture about the presence of an interrupted circle with the henges rules out the purpose of Stone Henges - they were built in the memory of deceased persons.
